What are the rules which you should be creating for your shared accommodation?

When you're thinking of a shared accommodation, it is important that you look into the various aspects like safety as well as the comfort of the flatmate as well and that is why, it is a better idea to create certain rules which are good enough for both of you.

1. Safety rules:

Whenever a flatmate leaves the apartment it is compulsory for them to ensure that they have to ensure that the door is locked. Even if they are leaving the apartment only for a couple of minutes, still it is necessary to lock the door. This would ensure that the apartment is secure at all points of time. Also, both the flatmates have to be careful with the keys of the apartment.

2. Food and drinking rules:

In a shared accommodation, the kitchen would also be shared and therefore you have to make it pretty clear to your flatmate that they have to label each and every thing which they are bringing with their own money. Same goes for you as well. When it is labelled, you can be sure that you do not have to touch those particular things and also you can be sure that your things also would not be used by others as well.

3. Curfew time:

You and your flatmate have to decide on a curfew time so that it is comfortable for you to rest in the apartment that night. You have to cut down on the noise after that time as well whether it is the noise of the TV or talking on the smart phone or bringing your friends to the apartment.

4. Keeping the apartment clean:

You have to convey right from the start that keeping the apartment clean is a responsibility of both of you. You have to set specific rules regarding the cleaning of the common areas like the washroom or the kitchen or the drawing room.

If need be, you can divide the duties on a daily bases in order to ensure that the common areas are always clean as well.

5. Providing each other space:

Since you are living in a shared accommodation that does not mean that you do not have to respect each other's privacy and therefore, you have to make it clear right from the start that the particular room of the flatmates are exclusive and the privacy in the rooms should not be disturbed.

So, when you're opting for a shared accommodation, it is important to set such rules in order to ensure that you are able to live comfortably as well as your flatmate.
